Marshfield Youth Baseball Pizza for Players

This summer, Mamma Mia's in Marshfield is unveiling their "Pizza for Players" initiative in support of the Marshfield Youth Baseball League (MYBL). Developed by a MYBL parent in the hopes of curbing the post-game ice cream rush and replacing it with a real dinner, "Pizza for Players" offers a free small cheese pizza to any MYBL player who comes to the restaurant in their uniform. The offer is valid for dine-in or takeout with the purchase of an adult entree on Monday-Thursday nights from 4-9pm at the Marshfield Mamma Mia's.

Mamma Mia's has been a family staple on the South Shore since the owners, the Viscariello family, came to America a half-century ago. They had a clear vision when they opened their first restaurant: to serve great tasting, authentic Italian food made from fresh, homemade ingredients that they grew up on in their hometown of Airola, Italy. As Mamma Mia's and their parent company the Viscariello Hospitality Group (VHG) celebrate 50 years of being family- owned and operated, their legacy of quality and consistency, and the efforts of the family's second generation, has enabled VHG to expand to six towns across the South Shore. They opened in Marshfield in 2002, and have been operating Mamma Mia's on Careswell Street since 2012.

Each of the restaurants in the group has their own unique charm that reflects the character of their surrounding communities. In Marshfield, the close proximity to the town baseball fields–less than 2 miles–make it an easy match. "It's a no-brainer for us to support them!," says VHG senior marketing coordinator Philip Tringale. MYBL has hundreds of registered families, and the fields and adjacent amenities get ample use throughout the year. With games lasting over two hours twice a week, often with a 45-minute practice beforehand, feeding the kids is a real challenge for a busy family. Mamma Mia's hopes that "Pizza for Players" will help nurture kids physically, and also nurture community bonds as families join together for post-game meals.

VHG has a long history of giving back to the communities and patrons who have supported their restaurants and employees over the years. Each VHG restaurant gives back in their host communities by having their employees volunteer their time and talents to causes that are important to them. VHG is in talks with MYBL league president Brian Murphy to find other ways the restaurant group can support the league. When they told him about "Pizza for Players," Murphy sealed the sentiment with one word: "Awesome," he said.

Pizza for Players" is available when you dine in or order takeout from July 8 - August 15, to coincide with the MYBL summer season. The offer cannot be combined with the Kids Eat Free promotion on Wednesday nights.
